Schools Programme
Thrive 1-2-1 and Group in Schools Mentoring
We offer early intervention and pastoral support to help young people develop the skills to cope with issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem isolation, underachievement, poor behaviour, difficult home situations, trauma and bad decisions. Young people are referred for mentoring by school staff.
We do this through 1-2-1 mentoring, usually taking place weekly over 6 weeks, or group mentoring which explores a set course of defined topics and takes place weekly over 12 weeks. These group mentoring course topics are:
-
Who Am I - what makes me who I am?; Firm Foundations - creating a strong sense of self and valuing the different areas of my life;
-
My Story - understanding how our past experiences effect and shape us;
-
The Circle of Control - looking at what we can and can't control in our lives; Change - how we respond and cope with change in our lives;
-
Resilience - exploring what resilience is and why is it important;
-
The Energy Buckets - understanding how we look after ourselves to better face the challenges of life;
-
My Emotions - identifying different emotions and carrying out an individual emotions audit;
-
Emotional Health - looking at what it is and how do I grow in it;
-
Dealing with Difficult Emotions;
-
Understanding and Coping with Anxiety;
-
Understanding and Dealing with Anger; and,
-
General Coping Strategies.
Thrive Space (break-time drop-in club)
Our youth workers are also available during break time and lunchtime once a week for students to drop in without referral, take part in games and challenges, and have the opportunity to chat to a Thrive team member and make friends. Many of those who have had mentoring sessions subsequently come along. One of the key benefits of Thrive Space is the supportive, friendly environment it offers students to engage with experienced youth workers.
Community Programme
Youth Cafes
Thrive Youth work provides open access youth cafes during term time. These are safe spaces for young people to socialise after school during their free time, engage in fun activities, socialise, access pastoral support, and connect with local youth workers. Some of those who have had mentoring sessions or been to the in-school break-time sessions subsequently come along to the Youth Café sessions outside of school, others come along independently. Youth Cafes take place in three locations in Huntingdon and the surrounding area.
Summer Programme (Events and Excursions)
An exciting range of activities and trips are organised, particularly during the school holidays. These have previously included: a Bake-Off Challenge, BBQs, Aqua Park Trips,Outward Bounds and Awards Evenings. We also run a 3 day faith focussed residential over the summer
